Chimeras are defined by the OED as "any mythical animal formed from parts of various animals". A pegasus is a chimera, and a platypus really should be but somehow isn't.
 
About once a year I need to sculpt something completely different, just to break a sculptor's block, or maybe give myself a palate cleanser. It's good for my soul.
 
So I print out a bunch of animal names, throw them into a hat, and choose two a day. Then I have to sculpt a chimera of the two animals. I do this until I'm bored. Some years I sculpt 5 and other years I make 15. They are one-off, never-to-be-repeated pieces. 
 
When I was 5 or 6 I remember asking my dad for a flying pony for my next birthday. I guess this is my way of dealing with the trauma of getting a pink BMX instead (I loved that bike).
 
Each chimera is attached to a custom-made base and sizes vary.
